Teen Checking FAQ

BayFirst Teen Checking accounts are available for teens age 13-18 only. Bankers under 12 should check out our Cash Kids Club account. Once they turn 18, your teen can choose to open another BayFirst checking account and transfer their balance.

To open your Teen Checking account, follow the steps above or head to a nearby BayFirst banking center.

Teen Checking is designed as a joint account with both a teen and parental account holder. However, a parent or guardian is only required on the account if the teen is under 18.

A parent or guardian must be on the account if the teen is under the age of 18.

In addition to being able to lock and unlock your teen's card and set spending limits, parents or guardians on the account can also set up spending alerts, deposit alerts, and balance alerts, which are customizable and can be set to any dollar amount.
 

Yes, Teen Checking meets The Bank On National Account Standards, meaning that it is a safe and affordable starter account with important features including low fees, no overdraft charges, online bill pay and more, which are ideal for those looking to start their banking relationship with the right tools to manage their money effectively.

Overdraft Privilege is not available for this account. Zelle: The “Send Money with Zelle®” (person-to-person transfers) feature is not available for this account. Account Ownership: Teen Checking is a joint account owned by 2 people, a parent or legal guardian being one of the joint owners. All deposits made into the account are owned by both people. Visa® Debit Card: The daily Point of Sale (POS) limit is $250 and $110 for ATM withdrawal. 

*Account must remain active to receive 1.01% APY (Annual Percentage Yield). Active is defined as direct deposit of payroll, SSI, or other income and 10 electronic debit transactions, including ACH debits, debit card point-of-sale, and Bill Pay per monthly statement cycle. Rates are calculated on a daily balance method. Minimum $10 to open. Fees may reduce earnings. Rate is effective as of 6/20/2024. Rates are variable and are subject to change at the bank’s discretion. 

**All Teen Checking account holders will be reimbursed up to $25.00 per month for fees incurred using out-of-network ATMs. This includes up to $10 per month in foreign ATM fees imposed by BayFirst and up to $15 per month in additional surcharges imposed by the ATM’s bank or owner. Reimbursements will be made automatically at the end of each monthly statement cycle.
