Plan To Save This Summer During Florida's Tax-Free Holidays

July 1, 2021

Most are familiar with many of the perks of living in Florida –from ideal weather to low cost of living, diversity, no state income tax, and more. And while it is also one of a handful of states to offer an annual state tax-free weekend, Florida has revamped and expanded its tax-free holidays in 2021 to not be outshone. This is the Sunshine State, after all.

Geared toward post-pandemic, economy-stimulating buying, Florida will offer a new tax-free holiday called Freedom Week this summer, during which you’ll save Florida’s 6% state sales tax plus local tax on eligible purchases.

From July 1-7, purchases of tickets to 2021 concerts, sporting and cultural events, movies, museums, state park annual passes, fitness facilities, and more will be tax-free. The Freedom Week Sales Tax Holiday also applies to sales of many boating, water activity, camping, fishing, and general outdoor supplies, plus sports equipment.

For a complete list of eligible purchases and restrictions, read the holiday announcement from the Florida Senate.
Just a few weeks later, beginning July 31, Florida will offer its annual tax-free holiday geared at purchases related to back-to-school.  This year, it will extend beyond the usual three-day event, running through Aug. 9 and providing 10 days to save. Taxes will be waived on some clothing and apparel, many school supplies and the first $1,000 for personal computers and related accessories.

Exceptions and spending thresholds apply, so be sure to read the complete list of Florida’s exempt and taxable items before buying.
